The National Reference Laboratory, affiliated with the Mubadala Healthcare Network, has revealed the start of evaluation of a new technique for detecting the "Covid-19" virus, called serological tests, or antibody testing, in the framework of the laboratory's commitment to support the government's efforts and initiatives, aimed at containing the spread of the epidemic in The UAE, through extensive medical tests and exams, has proven to be one of the most helpful measures in reducing the epidemic.

He also announced the expansion of his operational operations, to increase the number of laboratory tests he conducted to detect the emerging corona virus, from 3,500 tests, to 6,000 tests per day.

The laboratory's CEO, Abdel Hamid Al-Abisi, said that the laboratory has developed a comprehensive work plan for testing and testing operations to detect the emerging corona virus.

He said that the infrastructure and technical resources owned by the center, in addition to the distinguished human expertise, which includes 14 pathologists and clinical specialists, and more than 200 technical experts in the field of medical laboratory tests, allow him to perform a large number of accurate laboratory tests, and work around the clock, Throughout the week, to keep pace with the growing demand for medical exams.

The laboratory's chief medical officer, Dr. Basil Trabelsi, mentioned that there are different types of tests available, to detect «Covid-19», each of which has its advantages. He confirmed the laboratory's readiness to take the measures recommended by the competent health authorities in the Emirates. He said that the current molecular diagnostic examination relies on a technique called "polymerase chain reaction", which is looking for evidence of the virus's genome in the sample being examined. Medical tests for viruses, which rely on RNA, are useful when symptoms of the disease are severe, to provide individual care to patients, as well as to implement strategies to prevent the spread of the virus in health care facilities and society.

"I believe that both types provide important tools for controlling and revealing the full range of the epidemic," Traboulsi added. We are fortunate to have the advanced technologies to quickly provide diagnostic tools. ”

Accurate checks

The National Reference Laboratory is one of the few medical laboratories in the country that adheres to the Level III Biosafety Standards (BSL-3). Its operations comply with the highest standards set by the World Health Organization, for the widespread diagnostic test for "Covid-19".

The laboratory performs accurate checks on the samples separately, instead of grouping them together, while maintaining the speed required to conduct the tests and deliver the results.
