April 28, 2020 The last span of the new bridge over the Polcevera in Genoa will be positioned today. Adorned with the flag of San Giorgio, a banner of Genoa, the span, 50 meters long, was transferred yesterday to the ramp where it was anchored to the strand jacks that brought it to an altitude of about 45 meters. Today for the end of the launch, with the anchoring of the deck between stacks 11 and 12, there will also be Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

When the nineteenth and final span of the new Genoa bridge will be stuck between the piles, effectively completing the entire 1,067-meter long steel track planned by Renzo Piano's project, the shipyard siren will sound 'warning' the ships in port and in it is common that the eastern and western parts of the city of Genoa are finally reunited. At that point even the sirens of the ships will greet the new bridge.

Once the remaining works have been completed, starting from the construction of the work plan and the asphalting as well as all the other support works and the related tests, the bridge could be open to traffic already in mid-July, less than two years after the collapse of the old Morandi bridge.

"It is not a miracle, but the confirmation that the skills in Italy are there, just give them space. You have to apply this energy to the normal state of things, without waiting for the tragedy. Here is the point, Italy is capable of this" says Renzo Piano interviewed by Silvia Balducci. "It is an important moment, but it cannot be a party because we must never forget where it comes from. From a terrible tragedy".
