“In view of what happened last night, I will ask the prefect whether to take a curfew order. I am shocked to see that some people traffic in narcotic drugs with masks with an unbearable feeling of impunity ”, reacted this Friday morning the mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR).

The previous evening, in the Reynerie district, police officers were the target of projectiles while they were trying to apply the confinement measures to young people gathered at the bottom of the halls of a building. Tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd, without any questioning.

Prerogative of the prefect

“This is a question that concerns us. There is a decrease in delinquency due to confinement, and another which continues and which is more visible. Ten days ago, the question of non-compliance with confinement arose during the day, but if we see particular difficulties in the evening, then we must update the examination of this situation and the question of the curfew arises ”, continues the mayor of Toulouse.

No way to take a decree, which could be dismissed legally, "it remains a prerogative of the prefect," said the councilor.

If the police unions are not opposed, for some of them it is necessary to have the means to enforce it. “We are in favor of respecting the containment measures. If we want to enforce them, we must give ourselves the means, with why not Vigipirate military contingents as is the case in town. If we put in place a curfew, we have to succeed in order not to discredit ourselves, ”insists Didier Martinez of the Union-SCGP FO union.

... 3 // Nothing would be worse than engaging in an escalation of security measures impossible to enforce, which would further discredit the action of the public authorities.

The latter continues to demand resources, which, according to him, are always in deficit in the Toulouse conurbation today.
