Toulouse in southern France has suffered from severe drought in recent summers. 850,000 people have to dig deeper into their pockets for water in the hot season.

The price will be increased by 42 percent between June and October compared to the previous tariff. From November to May, the water tariff will be reduced by 30 percent. The decision applies to the city of Toulouse and the surrounding communities with a total of around850,000 inhabitants. The opposition criticized the new tariff as “not an incentive, but clearly punitive”
