Since Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to place the United Kingdom in containment. But, as in the other countries concerned by this type of measure, some are tempted to go for a walk. To limit this risk of non-compliance with confinement, the Derbyshire police did not hesitate to change the color of the water of a lake highly prized by influencers, reports The Independan t. The goal is to make this “picturesque site less attractive”.

The site in question is the Blue Lagoon, a toxic lake in the Peak District which has a natural turquoise blue color. Many people want to go there to take photos to be posted on social networks.

This is badly misjudged. People should maintain social distancing, which is what these people are doing. We need to maintain public support for fundamental behavior change which requires the authorities to focus on genuinely bad behavior. https://t.co/KSi2zQloJZ

A process already used in the past

In order to avoid escapades by the lake, the authorities therefore applied a water dye. And the Blue Lagoon has become ... black. "The location is dangerous and this type of gathering contravenes current instructions from the British government," local police said on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

"We visited the site this morning and used water-based stain to make it less attractive," added the authorities. They had already used this method to dissuade visitors from the past, especially bathers because of the toxicity of the water in this lake.
