In terms of status of residence, the number of "permanent residents" was the largest, an increase of 2.8% over the same period of 2018, to 793,164 people; followed by "skilled internships" of 410,972 and "study abroad" of 345,791, an increase of 2.6%. "Specific skills" is expected to grow to a maximum of 4755 people in 2019, showing weak growth.

In terms of countries and regions, the Chinese population is the largest, reaching 813,675. However, the Chinese had previously reached 860,000 people in Japan, and the number has now fallen. This was followed by 446,364 people in South Korea. Vietnam ranked third because there are many skilled interns in Japan, an increase of 24.5% over the same period in 2018, and there are already 411,968 people. The number of foreigners in Japan's 47 prefectures and counties has increased compared with the same period in 2018. Tokyo has the largest number of people, with 5,93,458 (up 4.5% year-on-year), followed by 281,153 in Aichi Prefecture (up 7.7% year-on-year) and 255,894 in Osaka Prefecture (up 7.0% year-on-year).
