Fariba Adelkhah, a Franco-Iranian academic, has been held in Iran since June, accused of conspiracy by the regime. She was admitted Sunday to Evin prison hospital where she is incarcerated in Tehran, her state of health having seriously deteriorated, according to her lawyer.

Fariba Adelkhah, a Franco-Iranian academic detained in Iran since June, was admitted Sunday to Evin prison hospital where she is incarcerated in Tehran, his lawyer said on Tuesday. This hospitalization is the consequence of a serious deterioration in her health, said Saïd Dehqan, seeing in it the result of the hunger strike that the researcher conducted from the end of December to mid-February.

"Unfortunately his kidneys have been damaged," and his health is "worrying," added the lawyer. Me Dehqan also expressed the fear that Fariba Adelkhah contracted the new coronavirus which officially killed 15 people in Iran. The researcher is being prosecuted for "propaganda against the political system" of the Islamic Republic of Iran and "collusion with a view to attacking national security".

His companion, researcher, is also detained

This last charge was also brought against her companion, the French academic Roland Marchal, detained like her since June by the Islamic Republic. The first hearing for their trial was scheduled for March 3 before the 15th Chamber of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Fariba Adelkhah is a renowned anthropologist, specialist in Shiism. Roland Marchal is a specialist in the Horn of Africa. Paris continues to demand the release of these two academics, member of the Center for International Research (CERI) of Sciences Po Paris.
