It is not possible to force the Syrian government to negotiate with terrorists in Idlib, said Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council.

“Russia is given advice on what to do and how. We can also give some recommendations. Firstly, it is necessary to stop protecting militants, including from organizations listed by the Security Council like Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham *, ”he said during the meeting.

According to the diplomat, a statement was recently made by a senior US official, James Jeffrey, that “it’s kind of possible to come to an agreement” with “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham”.

“It will not work to ensure political terrorist cover and force the Syrian government to negotiate with them,” Nebenzya said.

Earlier, the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad said that the battle for the liberation of the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib continues, as well as the battle for "the liberation of all Syrian land, the destruction of terrorism."

As reported on February 16, the Syrian army liberated the settlements of Kafr Dail and Al Mansur, the upland of Tel Shuweikhan and the Al Khalyakim region in the west of Aleppo province, as well as the areas of Ar Rashidin, Agel, Oveijel to the southwest of the city Aleppo.

* “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” (“Jabhat Fath al-Sham”, “Front al-Nusra”, “Jabhat al-Nusra”) - the organization was recognized as terrorist by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated December 29, 2014.
