As indicated, on February 17-18, the Special Representative of the President of Russia for the Syrian Settlement Alexander Lavrentyev and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Vershinin as part of the Russian delegation held the second round of negotiations with the Turkish delegation led by the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister.

“There was continued a detailed discussion of the situation on the ground in Syria with an emphasis on the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Both sides stated adherence to the existing agreements providing for measures to reduce tensions and ease the humanitarian situation while continuing the fight against terrorism, ”the statement said.

It was noted at the talks that achieving long-term security and stability in Idlib and other parts of Syria is possible "only on the basis of commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the country."

“The importance of advancing the political process of resolving the crisis in the SAR, which was led and carried out by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the UN, as stipulated by UNSC resolution 2254, was emphasized,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier in Ankara, it was stated that Russia and Turkey continued to cooperate to develop a final agreement on Idlib.
