The Left Party wants to impose maximum weight on vehicles procured by government agencies.

-Yes, at least if they're going to drive in cities. Then there is no need to have four-wheel-drive cars that weigh two tons or more, it's just stupidity. Then you should promote smaller and lighter cars instead, says Jens Holm (V), environmental policy spokesperson.

The Swedish Democrats believe that cars above a certain weight should not receive a climate bonus.

SD: Abolish the system

"Smaller cars are always better for the climate," says Martin Kinnunen (SD) environmental policy spokesman.

Ideally, however, the Swedish Democrats, together with the Moderates, want to abolish the entire current system.

Since mid-2018, those who buy a car with low carbon emissions receive a climate bonus of up to SEK 60,000, and in addition almost zero in vehicle tax. For company cars, it is about reduced benefit values and reduced tax.

In practice, it is almost only charging hybrids and clean electric cars that have low enough carbon dioxide emissions to qualify. But the SUV trend has prevailed even when it comes to climate cars, and that despite the fact that heavy cars are worse for the climate than easier, even if they rely entirely or partly on electricity.

To be changed according to the January agreement

SVT's review shows that every fourth climate bonus car weighs over two tonnes.

The current system of bonuses for low-carbon cars, and extra high vehicle taxes for cars with high emissions, is to be revised according to the January agreement between the government parties, the Liberals and the Center Party.

But in a survey conducted by SVT, none of the parties says that the importance should play a role in the possibility of getting climate subsidy. The center wants it to still only be about emissions from the exhaust pipe, but that carbon dioxide emissions from biogas and ethanol should not be counted as much because it is renewable.

The environmental party also does not want to specify any other criteria for the climate bonus than just the carbon dioxide emissions from the exhaust pipe. However, the Swedish Democrats and the Left Party also want carbon dioxide emissions from production to be weighed.
