The airspace of the Madrid-Barajas airport has been closed on the morning of this Monday , as confirmed by the Ministry of Transportation.

Enaire sources have explained to Europa Press that in the course of this morning two pilots have notified the sighting of some drones, so a massive aircraft diversion procedure has been activated, called 'Rate 0', which prevents take-off and Aircraft landing at the airport.

Therefore, Enaire has confirmed that the planes that are heading to Barajas at this time are being redirected to other airports. The alert has been activated at 12.40 pm and will remain, the principle, until 14.40 hours.

This information has also been confirmed by the Ministry of Transportation, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

Enaire recalled that drones "are not toys." To fly a drone in controlled airspace, an aeronautical safety study that analyzes and mitigates the possible risks is required and once the authorization of the State Air Safety Agency (AESA) has been obtained, contact the Airspace Operational Coordination Department of Enaire to coordinate its operation (cop@enaire.es).

A specific website and the drones.enaire.es application are available to pilots and drone operators, with aeronautical information data for the identification of possible restrictions for flying drones in a specific airspace in accordance with current legislation.

The State Air Safety Agency (Aesa), has put a tweet in which he remembers that flying drones in the vicinity of an airport is a "serious" infraction and that the sanctions can reach 90,000 euros.

The airport infrastructure manager ENAIRE has also warned of the incident, which it attributes to the presence of drones. In his official Twitter account he talks about 'delays' on flights that depart and arrive at the airport.
