“We are concerned about the growing activity of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Arctic. We are frankly and honestly talking about this with partners and the world community. Of particular concern to us is the increased activity in the Arctic of non-Arctic states of NATO member countries, ”RIA Novosti quoted Korchunova as saying.

He noted that these members are currently adopting Arctic military strategies or issuing documents that justify the expediency of a military presence in high latitudes.

“We believe that this leads to tension, it undermines the preservation of the Arctic as a zone of peace, stability and constructive interaction,” the ambassador emphasized.

In December, the commander of the Northern Fleet, Alexander Moiseev, announced an increase in NATO activity in the Arctic, including reconnaissance and combat training of the armed forces.
