Clothilde Ollier was removed from the EELV nomination in Montpellier. - Jérôme Diesnis / Maxele Presse

  • The national executive office of EELV decided to withdraw the nomination to Clothilde Ollier, designated head of the party's list in Montpellier after a citizen primary.
  • The past few weeks have been marked by a sharp blow to the left of the candidate, especially towards dissidents from La France Insoumise to whom she opened her list.
  • In the four polls published since the start of the campaign, EELV came out on top, alone or on a par with Philippe Saurel. Beaten in the primaries of which he had denounced the conditions, Jean-Louis Roumégas returns in the race: "What I denounce for several weeks bursts to light", he confides to 20 Minutes .

A dramatic change in the Montpellier municipal election campaign. The national executive committee of Europe ecology The Greens has removed the nomination for Clothilde Ollier. "It cannot use the logo on its municipal campaign material, nor avail itself of the support of EELV within the framework of the campaign, nor speak on behalf of EELV," said one of its members at Midi Libre. .

The decision of the national authorities upsets the balance of this atypical campaign in which around fifteen candidates are declared or about to do so ... The EELV list, led by the ex-mayor of the small village of Murles, was at the top ( alone or on an equal basis depending on the scenario with the outgoing mayor Philippe Saurel) of the four polls ordered by the various candidates or press organizations since the start of the campaign.

The growing influence of dissidents from rebellious France

At the beginning of January, she had decided to include on her list many dissident members of La France Insoumise (LFI) from the Confluence movement (in Montpellier, LFI officially supports the citizen list Nous Sommes), but also the Animalist Party and the radicals of left… A few days later, she had finished cutting herself off from EELV members by dismissing her position as campaign manager Manu Raynaud, to prefer Jean-Yves Dormagen.

In Montpellier as in Paris, this decision was seen as a betrayal: Manu Raynaud had largely contributed to his rise in power within Europe Ecologie Les Verts. Several members of the executive office had been dispatched to Montpellier during the week to understand this decision taken without consultation and to change its position. In vain.

Suspected of wanting to distance himself from EELV once elected

The national authorities criticize the union delegate of the CGT at the Millennium Clinic, "having a heart much more red than green," said 20 minutes a regional representative of the party. And finally to have taken the keys to Montpellier by breaking and entering. According to this person, they acquired the conviction that if she had been elected, Clothilde Ollier would have quickly distanced herself from the EELV.

Clothilde Ollier won the citizen primary organized by EELV in Montpellier. A defeat that his competitor Jean-Louis Roumégas had not accepted, denouncing low political maneuvers: many supporters of the Socialist Party had come to vote in this primary, tilting the primary in favor of the former mayor of Murles. Initially, the national body of EELV had nevertheless validated the result of this consultation. “For several weeks we have been denouncing betrayals at all levels. The facts have since proven us right. I was accused of being a bad loser, today things are breaking out, explains Jean-Louis Roumégas. It no longer respected the political lines defined collectively. The EELV list had turned into a cartel with people who wondered what they had as an environmentalist. ”

Jean-Louis Roumégas "reaches out to the ecological family"

Supported by a majority of local activists, Jean-Louis Roumégas had made the decision to lead his own list at the risk of "putting the party to sleep". The Montpellier animation group, as well as the regional and national executive offices, must now meet at the beginning of the week to determine whether the former deputy will recover the nomination. "I'm reaching out. There are two months left before the elections. It is not too late. This unfortunate episode can be an opportunity to put the pieces of the ecological family back together. These errors will leave traces in public opinion. It is essential to start on a good basis. "

Former EELV activist, now an independent environmental candidate, Thierry Teulade, for his part, believes that "once again, the demonstration has been made, ecology is too important to entrust to political parties (...). I therefore call on the heads of EELVs at local, regional and Parisian level to take advantage of the resumption of their movement to participate in the birth of citizen ecology in Montpelier ”.

Contacted, Clothilde Ollier has not yet followed up on our requests. She can still run for mayor, but now as an EELV dissident. It remains to be seen with what support.
