A 12-year-old girl survived today, Wednesday, after being buried in snow for 18 hours after an avalanche invaded her family's home in the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir.

Samina Bibi remembered her cry as she was trapped for help while she was crying lying in a room under a blanket of snow.

Pakistani officials said the death toll from the avalanches that occurred on Monday in the Neelum Valley in the Himalayan region disputed between Pakistan and India has increased to 74. Rescuers continue to recover the bodies.

Samina was one of the lucky ones. "I thought I would die there," she told Reuters, as she lay in a hospital bed in Muzaffarabad, where she was being treated with dozens of other injured people after being flown from the avalanche.
