The family would like to finally know the truth. On December 5, 2016, Pascal Dépretz was found dead, on the sidewalk in front of his house, in Dechy, in the North. He was 51 years old. His death had caused a great stir in the population because the man was a known cheese maker on the markets of Douaisis.

A judicial investigation had been opened a few days later and the police investigation had finally discovered the causes of this death. Pascal Dépretz had been cut down by the passage of a truck carrying a construction machine. An accessory of this machine, a feeler arm, lay not far from the body of the victim.

Charged for manslaughter

It is this 11 kg metal part that is responsible for the death, according to investigators who were able to reconstruct the scenario of the accident thanks to the cameras of the public transport network.

The truck had been identified. The driver, who did not realize the tragedy, was indicted for manslaughter, as was the company ADDT Corfu, to which he belonged.

However, three years after this tragedy, the trial is still pending. At issue, three new requests for a second opinion, which the lawyer for the public works company in question has just requested. This request must be examined on January 23 by the Douai Court of Appeal.

"The company just wants to save time"

"These additional investigative acts will bring nothing. The facts are recognized and established. The company simply wants to save time, ”says Franck Dépretz, godson of the deceased, who decided to break the silence around this matter. With seven other family members, the young man leads the fight so that a trial can definitively determine the responsibilities. Because the relatives of Pascal Dépretz suspect the company of not having respected the security measures concerning the convoy.

“You have to understand the pain of this family. Pacsal died with a gift in his hands for his father whose birthday fell the next day. It is normal for her to demand a trial quickly. These requests for acts from the opposing party are much too late, ”said Patrick Lambert, a family lawyer.

Pascal Dépretz lived with his parents whom he looked after. “My grandmother, aged 84, died in the spring, is moved by Franck Dépretz. She never recovered from the loss of her son. Not a day went by without her pronouncing her first name. I would like my grandfather, who is 87, not to disappear before justice is done. "

Contacted by 20 Minutes , the lawyer for AADT Corfu did not wish to speak.
