• Parliament Taiwan legalizes gay marriage: first time in Asia

02 January 2020A Black Hawk helicopter carrying the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Taiwan crashed this morning in the mountains outside the capital Taipei.

General Shen Yi-ming, who was missing, was found dead. This was reported by the commander in chief of the Air Force Hsiung Hou-chi, specifying that eight people died in the crash. Of the 13 people traveling on the UH-60M Black Hawk, only five survived.

As chief of the general staff, Shen was responsible for overseeing the island's defense against China, which threatens to use military force to annex what it considers its territory.

The helicopter was flying from Taipei to the northeastern city of Ilan when it crashed. The Central News Agency, the Chinese state-run news agency, had previously reported Shen among the survivors, citing emergency services.
