New Year's Eve was violent when the US embassy in Iraq's capital Baghdad was attacked. Protesters must have thrown water bottles and stones and security cameras destroyed.

A moment later, gunshots and sirens were heard. Proiran militia members must then have succeeded in breaking into the embassy. A main entrance was broken up and a reception set on fire, writes the news agency AP.

750 soldiers to the Middle East

Security forces responded with tear gas, and the United States quickly flew in navy troops to the embassy. Now the Pentagon Defense Headquarters announces that 750 soldiers will be sent to the Middle East in response. The soldiers have already left the United States and are on their way to Kuwait.

Trump threatens Iran

Tuesday's storm occurred after the mourners held funerals for those killed in the air strike against the pro-Iranian militia members in Iraq and Syria last Sunday. The attacks were directed at Iran-backed Shiite Hezbollah brigades. At least 25 people died and 55 were injured.

US President Donald Trump blames Iran for the attack, saying the price is high if any American is killed.

“They will pay a high price! This is no warning, it's a threat. Happy New Year, ”Trump writes on Twitter.
