During his first speech, the new head of state seemed to reach out to all Algerians while his election did not silence the dispute.
“ I am ready to cooperate with all the parties to meet the demands of our people. This is what Abdelmadjid Tebboune said at the start of his speech at the Palace of the Nation.
In the hall were present generals, members of the government, the four disappointed candidates, as well as the diplomats stationed in the country.
Abdelmadjid Tebboune extended his thanks to the Acting Head of State, Abdelkader Bensalah , and the Chief of Staff, Ahmed Gaïd Salah, whom he decorated with the order of national merit at the rank of Sadr.
His speech was intended to unite. " It is our duty to turn the page on disputes, " he said, before announcing the broad outlines of what his program will be.
Abdelmadjid Tebboune wanted to have a word for everyone. He mentioned social, economic, diplomatic, energy, health issues. He recalled that he would launch, in the coming weeks or months, a revision of the Constitution. And he said he would only stay in office for one term, five years.
