Algeria announces the organization of preliminary presidential elections. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune decided to hold presidential elections on September 7th, which means moving them forward by 3 months from their scheduled date in December.

The announcement came in a statement by the Algerian presidency following a meeting chaired by Tebbune to study preparations for the presidential election. Tebbaune was elected President of Algeria on December 12, 2019 for a five-year presidential term, renewable once according to the text of the constitution.
