"The Iranian Special Representative (Brian) Hook calls on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to suspend the leadership accounts of the Iranian regime, which shamelessly used social networks to spew propaganda, blocking the Internet for ordinary Iranians," the State Department said on Twitter.

On November 23, Iran partially restored its Internet connection after a five-day disconnection across the country in response to protests over rising gas prices.

Earlier, the State Department said it condemned attempts by the Iranian authorities to turn off the Internet.

Also, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asked protesters against the authorities in Iran to send photos and videos of the protests to the State Department using the bot in the Telegram messenger.
