Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed was on an official visit this Thursday in Algeria, a prelude to that of President Kaïs Saïed, expected very soon. He met with Algerian President Abdelkader Bensalah.

For Youssef Chahed, Tunisian-Algerian relations are " strategic " and " historical ". This is what he said at the end of his interview with the Algerian president ad interim, to whom he sent a letter " personal " from the Tunisian president.

Statements echoing the speech of Kaïs Saïd who, during his inauguration on October 13, had said that his first trip abroad would be in Algeria.

The content of the letter is not known, but the statements of Youssef Chahed reaffirm the importance of this bilateral cooperation, to " face , he said, the common challenges facing the two countries ." Especially at the " security " level. " There is almost daily coordination between our forces and those of Algeria, " he continued.

Tunisia, which aims for a more influential position in the Libyan issue, also seeks to cooperate with Algeria on this complicated subject. The two neighboring countries of Libya have not been invited to the Berlin conference in December, despite their protests. This conference is to deal with the Libyan crisis. Tunis and Algiers fear that the current war in Tripoli will lead to a displacement of terrorist groups in their respective territories.

Also the question of the revival of the Maghreb Union, strongly desired by the new Tunisian president.

No statement was made at the end of this meeting on the Algerian side.
