Egyptian parliamentarian Ahmed Tantawi has put forward a new initiative consisting of 12 major axes of political reform in the country for a modern democratic state.
He said in a video clip on Sunday evening that he submitted a memorandum to the President of the Council Ali Abdel-Al to form 12 parliamentary committees to discuss his initiative to get out of the crisis in the country.
Among the axes Tantawi talked about was the abolition of constitutional amendments that allow President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to remain in power until 2034, the abolition of the state of emergency in the country for two years, in addition to the release of political prisoners.
The initiative also called for discussing the economy of the armed forces, which has grown significantly since the overthrow of the late President Mohamed Morsi in the summer of 2013, the restructuring of the state budget, and the restructuring of the judiciary and interior institutions in line with the face of terrorism and corruption, as well as a review of international agreements.
Regarding the timing of its submission, Tantawi said that he comes based on the president's speech, which last Thursday called on the House of Representatives to play its role, saying, "You have a responsibility and everything is the subject of a complaint needed to address it and work committees and make reports and make them public."
Hours after the opposition MP put forward his initiative, activists on social networking sites launched the hashtag "#With the Ahmed_Tantawi Initiative" where opinions were split between supporters and dissidents.

Ahmed Tantawy offers an initiative to wait for the rule of Sisi in 2022 like it or not we Vnkhonana bless the rule of Sisi to God's will, but that the stab comes from those who see them will line with us do not blame them |
MP Tantawi is a respected man and a promising political future, but I disagree with him in his initiative. The problem now is not at the head of the regime, but the problem is in a complete system .. His only reform will unfortunately be overthrown .. I hope that God will soften the Egyptians at the time .. Sisi regime He did not fast his ears, his mind and his conscience from all the demands of reform. - bakryhasan (@bakryhasan) November 3, 2019 |
No to the initiative of MP Ahmed Tantawi Sisi |
MP Ahn Tantawi talk about the initiative is very logical and clear that it is thoughtful and I offer all the mechanisms that suit the current state of the country, but I see that he raised the ceiling of the opposition in Egypt with not exceeding the person of Sisi did not complete only 50% of the items of the initiative - Honey & Manel (@ NUifWE5GXZRkQ4N) November 3, 2019 |
