Ulf Johansson, regional police chief in Stockholm, agrees with the police's increased presence on social media and believes that it is an important dialogue tool.

- I think the YB Södermalm account, like our other accounts in social media, is positive for the Stockholm Police. We are given the opportunity to talk about our work and open for dialogue with citizens, writes regional police chief Ulf Johansson to SVT.

"If the account did not elicit any reactions at all, it would probably be significantly less"

And despite the fact that over the years there has been a huge storm around the account, the regional police chief does not want to criticize or review any of the account's tweets.

- There is usually no reason for us in the management to act on YB Södermalm's tweets. Police work can in itself trigger a lot of reactions. And when communicated in relatively scaled-down form on a platform with 160,000 followers, it becomes extra clear. If the account did not elicit any reactions at all, it would probably be significantly smaller.

Why is the police on social media needed?

- For several reasons. In addition to the aforementioned, it also gives us an opportunity for increased dialogue with the public by being where many people are.
