The regions are listed in alphabetical order. The overall question that was asked was "Do you offer water births in your region", with the consequential question of why / why not.

BLEKINGE: "May stay in the bath until they shrivel"

No. But the women are allowed to stay in the bath until it is time to kiss. For about five years now, they have been allowed to stay in the bath after water seepage.

DALARNA: "Offers baths as pain relief"

No. We have a bath for pain relief before birth. However, we do not see that there is reason to offer water delivery for work environment reasons or for reasons related to newborn health, even if single midwives may want to do so.

GOTLAND: "Want to await outcomes at larger clinics"

No. We are a small childbirth department and want to await outcomes at larger clinics as possible risks to the child / mother and the care thereafter is more sensitive in a small place than in a large hospital, where there is immediate access to, for example, Neo-care.

GÄVLEBORG: "More difficult to control birth"

No. We work very actively with prevention to avoid severe ruptures during childbirth and water delivery makes it more difficult for the midwife to hold perineal protection and control birth to avoid rupture. We also do not have room for pool in the premises.

HALLAND: "Need research and experience"

No. Research and experience are needed to change this and possibly offer this in the future.

JÄMTLAND / HÄRJEDALEN: "Not in time"

No. We have no interest from pregnant women for that. It is not in time and we do not have premises for it.

JÖNKÖPING COUNTRY: "Need to train staff"

No. In order to be able to offer a method, physical conditions, in this case, a sufficiently large bath, and a sufficient number of trained persons are needed. Water delivery also involves difficulties in controlling the middle yard in order to reduce the risk of serious rupture. It can also be difficult to maintain a good ergonomics for relieving midwives.

KALMAR LÄN: "No demand"

No.

Västervik hospital: The reason is that we cannot offer this, hygienic aspects locally. The ergonomics of the staff also come into play.

Kalmar County Hospital: Because we do not really have any demand for water delivery.

KRONOBERG: "Not patient safe"

No. At present with the premises we have, it is not patient safe to offer this type of childbirth.

NORRBOTTEN: "Have only one bath"

No. This is mainly because we only have one bath on each delivery unit, which is used for pain relief during the opening phase in the first place. The bathtub / premises are not easily adjustable so that the midwife can safely and well, both in terms of patient safety and the working environment, help the birth during the expulsion phase.

SKÅNE: "It is important to meet women's wishes"

Yes. But the only hospital in Region Skåne that offers water delivery is the Lasarrette in Ystad.

The laser court in Ystad: We have established guidelines for which women can be offered water births. It is offered to women who are healthy, have had a normal pregnancy, have started spontaneously in labor, all intake checks are normal and a normal delivery is expected. It is important to meet women's wishes as far as possible without risking patient safety.

Skåne University Hospital: We have a bathtub and a delivery pool at Malmö childbirth, which is used for pain relief.

Helsingborg laser: We have two bathrooms for eleven delivery rooms. The majority of women who bathe do so for pain relief during the opening phase. The bathrooms are not equipped to provide safe delivery in water and it would not be fair to other patients if a patient stayed throughout their delivery in the bathroom.

The staff is also not currently trained in handling a water delivery. Demand from patients for water delivery is relatively sparse. Hygiene also has many objections to this.

STOCKHOLM: "Has done since May 2018"

Yes. BB Stockholm offers water delivery and has done so since May 2018. At our other five clinics, water delivery is not offered, but some clinics have asked for pain relief.

SÖRMLAND: "Follows the area with excitement"

No. In Region Sörmland, we want to offer the absolute best and safest care for both mother and child, and we follow the development of the water delivery area with excitement. For the time being, we offer and encourage bathing for pain-relieving and relaxing purposes, during the opening phase.

UPPSALA: "Does not have the right equipment"

No. We don't have the right equipment in existing premises yet.

Värmland: "Has neither premises nor equipment"

No. At present, we have neither premises nor equipment to be able to offer water delivery. We only have a bath to complement the pain relief.

VÄSTERBOTTEN: "The premises are not adapted"

No. The premises are not adapted for this.

WESTERN ORRLAND: "Lack of skills and equipment"

No. Not in Sundsvall anyway. We lack both expertise and equipment. There has also been no demand from patients.

VÄSTMANLAND: "Woman can swim during the work"

No. During the work, the woman can swim. We have a bath in the maternity ward.

ÖREBRO LÄN: "Does not have local presuppositions"

No. The issue is not current and has not been for many years as we do not have the local conditions to have a bath in the delivery rooms. We only have two smaller sitting tubs in the toilet in two rooms, these are not intended or possible to redeem in.

ÖSTERGÖTLAND: "Safe and Appreciated Method"

Yes. At the University Hospital in Linköping. Water births are in demand by the women giving birth. Since it is a safe and appreciated method for low-risk childbirth, it is included in our range.

WESTERN GOTLAND REGION: "Offered at a hospital"

Yes. At Sahlgrenska University Hospital, water delivery is offered. Two of our other hospital administrations, Södra Älvsborg Hospital and Skaraborg Hospital, have no water deliveries. At NÄL, no water deliveries apply.
