• Science: A large fireball crosses the sky of Andalusia

A fireball from an asteroid has been seen tonight over the sky of the provinces of Córdoba, Cádiz and Seville, although in principle it seems smaller than the one seen last Monday in Huelva, Seville, Córdoba and Badajoz.

Emergencies of the City of Seville has reported that according to astrophysicist José María Madiedo of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) it is a smaller rock than Monday, which entered the atmosphere at 61,000 kilometers per hour.

In the latter case and in the absence of being studied in depth, it has disintegrated at higher altitude, after being seen by several people in the provinces of Córdoba, Seville and Cádiz.

The phenomenon will be studied by the detectors that the Wind and Meteor Network of Southwest Europe, which operates in different parts of Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha.

On Monday, images of the phenomenon were obtained from the observatories of La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada) and Seville.

These detectors work within the framework of the SMART Project, and aim to continuously monitor the sky, thereby recording and studying the impact against the earth's atmosphere of rocks from different objects in the Solar System.
