Treated as a hero when he tried to save two of his colleagues during a fatal fire, which caused him serious injuries, Aurélien refuses today to repay the amount that the health insurance asks him. He testifies on Europe 1.

His testimony is a little tired: "I would like to stop telling me that I owe money, and leave me alone." Aurélien Boidin, a firefighter who tried to save two of his colleagues during a fire in the Pas-de-Calais in January 2018, refuses to reimburse the amount requested by the Health Insurance for the care received after his injuries contracted during the tragedy, which killed five people, including two firefighters, at Estrée-Blanche.

Received by Macron, decorated by Collomb

In micro Europe 1, the volunteer firefighter tells the difference in treatment between the post-fire and today. "When the accident happened, everyone was with me," he recalls. "I was received at the Élysée by the president, with the heroes of the daily newspaper, and I was received by Gérard Collomb, the Minister of the Interior at the time, who gave me a medal. Now, no one is with me, I'm forgotten, I'm just a number. "

" I had a hard time during my life "

Today in sick leave, Aurélien Boidin must repay 9,000 euros to the Health Insurance. He is in fact the victim of an administrative imbroglio: after several operations, the firefighter thought to resume his professional activity but finally had to undergo new surgeries, including skin transplants. The insurance company does not want to take care of it. Aurélien feels betrayed and now asks to be left alone after "a hard test during [his] life", he confides.

A prize pool launched

The SDIS of Pas-de-Calais (the fire department) would be ready to make a gesture for Aurelian and the insurance offers him a payment in installments. But he refuses to repay the 9,000 euros, which he considers not to have stolen. A pot has been created to try to help him, and the young man, 21 years old at the time, today receives many supports on a dedicated Facebook page.
