  • Politics: Ximo Puig will ask the Government for money but maintains the need to cut

The acting Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, yesterday gave "guarantee" that she will advance 250 million to the Valencian Community with October 9 as the deadline before verifying if she meets the requirements. This follows from the statements of the Valencian Socialist President, Ximo Puig, after being received by Montero.

"There is a guarantee that before October 9, the extra FLA will be transferred to the treasury of the Generalitat Valenciana and that it is 250 million euros," said Puig. It refers to the tranche of the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA) that is normally granted at the end of the year and always conditioned to the presentation and approval of an adjustment plan in which the autonomous regional government commits itself to take measures to meet the objective of deficit. Puig has not yet been able to present such a plan to the Ministry and, in fact, his Minister of Finance, Vicent Soler , achieved last week that the Department of Montero granted him an extension after the deadline on September 10.

However, Puig assumed that the plan he will present will be accepted by the Ministry and that he will be able to receive those 250 million crucial for the Generalitat's liquidity. The Valencian Community is considered by the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility as one of those that will "most likely" fail to meet the deficit target and asked the Ministry to demand an adjustment plan under threat of sanctions.

The offer of Montero to Puig caused suspicion yesterday in the PP. The president of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, described as "shocking" that the minister receives the socialist baron and not him. "He has had more luck," he said yesterday in Madrid.

The acting minister is focusing her agenda since the return of vacation in socialist barons such as the president of the Canary Islands and Puig himself, although he met last July 30 with the president of the Xunta , Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Puig said yesterday that he has also received "guarantee" that he will receive what Feijóo and all the regional barons claim: outstanding payments this year. «The Ministry has offered to guarantee the treasury of the Generalitat Valenciana. The 450 million will be released in this quarter and for this the Ministry is looking for the fastest route, but there is a guarantee that they will be delivered ».

Although Puig did better than the barons of the PP, he is forced to make adjustments and present them to his coalition partners if the Ministry and the Consell comply with current regulations. Puig said that investments that affect the Welfare State will not be touched, but that it will stop spending especially on items that are difficult to execute or that are deferrable.
