- If I had not gone on my stomach, Othilia would not have existed today, says Emelie Jonsson.

Emelie Jonsson, 25, says it started with a stomach ache and was constipated. She then sought care at the health center. A test showed that the stomach problems were due to a pregnancy.

The problems continued and later Emelie was sent by ambulance to Uppsala when she thought she had received an outpatient pregnancy.

Medication to end pregnancy

For a month, Emelie visited the Academic Hospital for various checks. First came the message that it could be out-of-state pregnancy, and then likely to be a missed opportunity. That's when doctors recommended her to eat drugs to end the pregnancy.

But Emelie never took the tablets.

- I booked a time in Gävle instead of feeling dissatisfied with the doctors in Uppsala. My feeling said something different, says Emelie Jonsson.

Early normal pregnancy

The visit to Gävle Hospital showed an early normal pregnancy and the fetus was alive.

- I was so happy, but at the same time shocked that I was told that I probably had a miscarriage.

Now Emelie Jonsson has reported the incident to the Inspection for Health and Care, IVO.

"What makes me most angry is that they wanted to give me a drug that would have ended my pregnancy, without being completely sure it was a miscarriage," she says.

"Can be hard to see heartbeat"

The Academic Hospital cannot comment on the individual case.

- I have no details in the case. But it can be difficult early in a pregnancy to assess with ultrasound. It can only be a few days where you see a small fetal plate with cardiac activity, says Gudlaug Sverrisdottir, chief gynecologist at Akademiska hospital.

She continues:

- When we learn more details, we will of course make a proper investigation of what our routines have looked like and whether we need to change them.

Othilia - six weeks today

In July, Emelie Jonsson and her cohabit's daughter Othilia were born. She is six weeks today.

- I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I have felt very bad about this and it has been very stressful.
