According to Brita Winsa, Director of Health at Region Västerbotten, at the birth a staffing plan was made based on the summer situation they usually have.

- And that should have been enough. But now I don't have those numbers so I can comment on why it got this way, she says,

According to Winsa, you also take into account the experience of the staff when planning the summer.

- There should be experienced staff in the departments as well, but we must also introduce new employees and our employees must have vacations every year. But, of course, one should make sure that there is enough experienced staff to provide patient-safe care, she says.

Also affected BB

According to the Health Care Association, it was precisely at birth that the care situation was most strained this summer, which also affected BB. To VK, Kia Lindståhl, who is head of department at the Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, says that she had an occupancy rate of 131 percent at BB in July.

The Cecilia Jakobsson Healthcare Association says that they have gone to the lowest possible staffing during childbirth and that staff had to cancel their leave during the summer to support their colleagues.

- Now the region must invest in its staff, both in terms of salary and better working environment, says Cecilia Jakobsson.

Must evaluate summer

The regional council Peter Olofsson (S) says that one should obviously have a good working environment, but that the summer of care can not be evaluated until August is over and then with the help of all operations managers.

- It is impossible to answer if the birth is incorrectly planned. We know that summers are tiring and people still have vacations. After the evaluation, we will know what we will learn next summer, says Peter Olofsson (S).
