An explosion on a missile launch base in the Russian Far North. The incident took place on Thursday, August 8 in the morning. Two people were killed. The explosion caused a brief rise in radioactivity, according to a locality close to the military base. The Russian authorities, however, state that there is no radioactive contamination, and no cause for concern for the local population.

The explosion took place at the Nionoska military base in the Arkhangelsk region. A ballistic test base, which has existed since the 1950s.

According to information provided by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the accident took place during a test, killing two people and injuring at least six people.

The communiqué issued by the Ministry of Defense ensures that there was no radioactive contamination following this accident. However, the city of Severodvinsk, located near the base, raised at midday, a rise in radioactivity ambient - a limited increase and which fell quickly, immediately specified the local authorities.

According to the consumer protection agency " there has been no pollution presenting risks to public health ".

This incident comes after two impressive fires that have affected since the beginning of the month, ammunition depots in Russia. In the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, the explosions caused by the fire resulted in the emergency evacuation of several thousand people.
