The mayors of Mito City and Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, which are aiming to shift to the core city from April next year, visited the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and asked Mr. Ishida for the designation of the core city. Communicated their thoughts to proceed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications visited Mayor Takahashi in Mito City and Mayor Junji Goto, Suita City on the afternoon of the 7th, meeting with Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Ishida and asked for designation as a core city.

In response, Minister Ishida responded, “I want to carry out designated procedures based on the offer.”

If a city with a population of 200,000 or more is designated by the national government, many administrative authorities, such as the establishment of a health center and a special nursing home for the elderly, will be transferred from the prefecture.

Both cities are aiming to transition from April 1 next year, and if both cities are designated, the number of core cities in the country will be 60.

Mayor Takahashi of Mito City said, “We were able to come back here by recovering and recovering from the damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. I would like to further develop the city with the designation of the core city.”
