The Ministry of Emergency Situations has sent a helicopter to search for the missing tourists in Karelia
EMERCOM of Russia sent a Mi-8 helicopter to search for ten tourists from St. Petersburg who disappeared in Karelia. This is stated in a message posted on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region.
According to the ministry, the tourists were supposed to make the transition from the settlement of Sumy Posad to Kondostrov Island on five canoes.
“At the moment, the aviation of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and the Mi-8 helicopter have been sent from St. Petersburg to search for tourists,” the message says.
The Emergency Situations Ministry noted that “searches on the water are hampered due to high waves in the area of these islands, ranging in size from 1.5 to 2 meters and a strong wind load.”
Earlier it was reported that a group of tourists from St. Petersburg disappeared in the White Sea on the territory of Karelia.
