Two policemen wanted to drive a 23-year-old, who had previously rioted in a police station, home - but then let him get out in a parking lot because they were called to a mission. A little later, the man was hit and mortally wounded.

The police charged with negligent homicide in the case have now been acquitted by the Oldenburg district court. The public prosecutor's office had accused the officials of contributing to the accidental death of the man. According to the indictment, the police had not sufficiently assured whether the man was still able to orient.

The Chamber saw it differently, as a court spokesman said. It had not been apparent that the man was helpless.

The prosecution had demanded a fine for both defendants, the defense pleaded for acquittal. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
