In eastern Germany, Easter fires have been canceled in many places because of the acute forest fire danger. Thus, administrations in Torgau, Taucha, Schkeuditz and Bad Düben (all in Saxony) prohibited open fires. Also events in Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt have been canceled.

In large parts of the eastern German states, authorities have declared the highest or second highest level of forest fire risk because of the prolonged drought. In East Germany, the forests had already suffered heavily during the previous year from months of lack of rain. Meteorologists expect the beginning of the Easter days mostly sunny, warm and dry weather.
