According to mecklenburg-vorpommerschenm Ministry of Transport on the highway 20 between Strasburg and Pasewalk as well as on the triangle Wittstock of A24 and A19 for a few hours a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour applies: In Germany's northeastern state there is currently an increased risk of sandstorms.

Due to the dry and windy weather warning signs with the notices "danger spot" and "sandstorm" were set up on several sections of the motorway and partly the permitted maximum speed was lowered, as the police reported. On the A24 between Neustadt-Glewe and Parchim the top speed was lowered because of a construction site anyway. There additional signs were set up.

Hedges required as a sand trap

Dust storms are not uncommon in drought, wind and bare fields in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Eight years ago, a dust storm had catastrophic consequences: on the A19 occurred in such a storm a pile-up, in which eight people died.

According to the ministry, farmers have been increasingly advised and a nationwide erosion event cadastre built. The demand of environmentalists for more hedgerows to hold back the field, but so far not been implemented in a larger style.
