Around 90 football fans have been beaten in Mannheim before a game in the Baden Cup, causing a large-scale deployment of the police with several hundred officials. Numerous supporters of the Karlsruher SC and not involved in the game SV Waldhof Mannheim had started on Wednesday afternoon in the city center, police said.

They would have hit each other and thrown themselves at a construction site with shut-off material. The police provisionally arrested 49 people. Two men were injured in the brawl and came to the hospital. The police now investigate for serious breach of the peace.

The occasion for the dispute was played in the Rhein-Neckar Stadium Cup semi-final of the club division VfB 1950 Gartenstadt against Karlsruher SC. The evening ended with a 4-0 win for the third division from Karlsruhe.
