In the case of the gang rape of a student in Freiburg, the police have taken another suspect. Investigators have therefore arrested on Thursday evening in Emmendingen an 18-year-old Syrians - as a total of ninth suspects.

According to the investigators, the young man had already appeared in police for assault, insult and a narcotics offense. In the course of the investigation into the rape, he voluntarily submitted a saliva sample. The State Office of Criminal Investigation was able to assign the DNA on the clothing of the victim to the suspect.

According to the investigators, the student was raped after a disco visit by several perpetrators. Eight men are already in custody, including seven Syrians aged 19 to 29 and a 25-year-old German. Due to further traces of DNA on the clothing of the 18-year-olds, the investigators go out of at least one other suspects.

The man considered to be the main suspect is according to police an intensive offender. Since the summer of 2018, the now 22-year-old has committed several crimes. It is about three bodily injuries and two sexual acts - as well as marijuana trade.

Of the other seven suspects, two have so far not appeared in criminal law. The other five were in the police with offenses such as performance curfew or assault noticed.
