That could not work out: A man from the Ruhr area lit a campfire in his bathtub to heat up - and thus almost put his apartment in ruins.

The emergency call for alleged Dachstuhlbrand in Mülheim an der Ruhr had been received at night, said the fire department. When the emergency services arrived, smoke was already rising from the window of the apartment. Four people were rescued from the building and investigated for suspected smoke poisoning. However, they were unhurt.

The rescue workers quickly turned off the burning wood in the sink as the source of the smoke. The firefighters would not have had much time either: the bathtub stood on a wooden floor, which had already been damaged by the fire. "If the fire had been discovered here too late, he would probably have spread to the whole apartment," said the fire department. She also pointed out that deadly carbon monoxide is produced by open fire.

Why did the man light the campfire in the tub? He said he wanted it warmer in his apartment, according to the message from the fire department.
