A glider crashed on an airfield near Kassel. Two people were seriously injured, police said.
According to first information, a jogger has something to do with the accident. The man had run on the airfield at Zierenberg over the runway when the glider just started to take off. On board were a 46-year-old flight instructor and a 17-year-old flight student.
Another student pilot, who was responsible for air traffic control at that time, noticed the jogger and let the start abort. The glider pilot of the type Schleicher ASK 21 then fell from about five meters high on the runway.
The two inmates were taken to hospital with serious injuries - the young woman in the ambulance, her in the helicopter.
Maybe wearing headphones
Why did not succeed a proper landing is unclear. The investigation was still ongoing, said a police spokeswoman. The damage to the glider is according to police about 25,000 euros.
Presumably, the man himself had not noticed anything about the accident: he had run away unrecognized. Maybe he had worn headphones. The officials are looking for the jogger.
The police investigate on suspicion of dangerous interference with aviation and negligent assault. For this threatens a prison sentence of more than a year.
