In parts of the Canadian province of Quebec, the residents are struggling with heavy floods - caused by heavy rainfall and snowmelt. More than 2,900 houses were flooded, about 1,300 people were brought to safety, as Radio Canada reported.

The Prime Minister of the French-speaking province, François Legault, promised fast help to those affected. The hardest hit was therefore the Beauce region southeast of the provincial capital of Quebec. In the municipality of Sainte-Marie there were about a thousand houses under water.

It also hit the city of Gatineau in the west of Quebec north of the Canadian capital of Ottawa. It had already been hit by floods in 2017 and a tornado in 2018.

During a visit to a completely flooded district of Gatineau, Legault warned of the consequences of global warming. "It's important to note that with climate change, such events are more common than in the past, so we need to adjust our program."
