In the Wickede district of Dortmund, a man has saved his badly injured neighbor from worse after an explosion in an apartment. The 36-year-old brought the 35-year-old woman, who was severely burned, to safety with a ladder.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday evening at about 18.30, according to the fire department. In addition, a fire broke out. Residents then heard a loud bang and saw fire behind the window in an apartment of the three-story apartment building. "Glass splinters and parts of the window frame are distributed up to 15 meters in the backyard," said the fire department.
Apart from the severely injured woman, five other residents were hospitalized with suspected smoke poisoning - including the 36-year-old neighbor. Two cats treated the fire brigade with oxygen and took them to a Dortmund veterinary clinic.
