Dirk Nowitzki thanked the fans of the Dallas Mavericks with a full-page newspaper ad. Twelve days after his resignation, the basketball superstar described his memories and emotions in a letter in the Sunday Dallas Morning News. The newspaper posted the page on Twitter.
"I'll miss the game, but I can not wait to start the next chapter with you," wrote the 40-year-old Würzburger. Nowitzki had completed 21 seasons in the North American professional league NBA for the Mavs.

"No statistics, no record, no prize in this game" meant more to him than the affection of the fans. The letter does not mean a farewell. It was a thank you to the fans of the team who made him one of their own. "Forever grateful, forever yours, and forever a Dallas Maverick," writes Nowitzki.
