The Dalai Lama is treated for an infection in the hospital. This was confirmed by his spokesman Tenzin Taklha. But the spiritual leader of the Tibetans is already feeling better.

Previously, he was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi with chest pain, said the representative of the Dalai Lama, Ngodup Tsering. The 83-year-old had been flown on Tuesday morning for a medical examination in the hospital.

Accordingly, he had suffered from "a slight cough". "The doctor said there was nothing to worry about, it's not that bad," Tsering said.

The Dalai Lama are now being treated with medications. His health was stable. He is expected to stay in hospital for a day or two, his spokesman Taklha said.

The Kangra District Police Chief, where the Dalai Lama lives, told The Indian Express newspaper that the Tibetan spiritual leader had taken a scheduled flight to New Delhi. "There is no need to panic."

The Dalai Lama fled across the border to India in 1959 during a rebellion, where he has since lived in exile in the city of Dharamshala, as well as many other Tibetan refugees.
