Tweeters sympathized with the family of the captive female soldier in the Gaza Strip, named Liri Elbag, after the Israeli police opened an investigation against her for throwing a funeral wreath (used for condolence) accompanied by a phrase placing responsibility for the loss of their daughter on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, while others accused the families of the prisoners of exaggerating their demands for the return of their families.

Elbag was one of the prisoners who fell into the hands of the resistance during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which took place on October 7th, and she was 19 years old.

According to the Israeli army’s account, the family soldier was detained in this room inside Gaza for days, before moving between other homes.

Eli Elbag, the prisoner's father, and his family participated in demonstrations and sit-ins, and demanded that the Israeli government give the prisoners' file the utmost importance. They accused it of marginalizing the Israeli detainees in Gaza and failing to conclude a deal to return them.

But what is striking is that the funeral wreath thrown by the prisoner’s mother was accompanied by the phrase, “Bless her memory. We all know that the state is much more important.”

Investigation and interaction

In turn, the Israeli occupation police said that it had begun an immediate investigation (into this letter), and immediately transferred the complaint to the Investigations and Intelligence Division and the Cybercrime Unit.

The Israelis commented on the incident between a supporter of the prisoner’s family and those who believe that the detainees’ families are exaggerating in their demands for their return. Yoav wrote: “This sadistic and criminal act (investigating the prisoner’s family) is the result of continuous incitement by a government that abandoned the kidnapped (prisoners) in the first place, because Their return does not serve it.”

Yoav accused the government of dismantling the relationship between it and the Israelis, saying, "This government has systematically dismantled the mutual bond between us, and removed the sympathy between us."

As for Shamir, he tweeted, saying: “Thank you, Bibi (Netanyahu). These are the fruits of the hatred and malice you sowed until there are those among us who have lost humanity and send such things to a grieving family.”

Likewise, Shira commented, saying: “If the sender of these flowers is Israeli, then our country is heading toward the abyss, and the harshest penalties must be applied to it, and we must be careful not to sow hatred among us.”

On the other hand, Lara expressed her feeling that the families of the prisoners were exaggerating in dealing with the issue, saying: “They are just flowers that aroused all this sympathy and drama, as if our government had not destroyed all of Gaza... What will it do more than that? The families of the prisoners are really exaggerating.”

The Forum for Families of Hostages and Missing Israeli Families condemned what it called "the violent behavior to which the Elbag family was subjected," stressing that it would open an investigation into the circumstances of the case, led by the association's board of directors, and in cooperation with Israeli law enforcement agencies.

In turn, the newspaper "Israel Today" quoted sources that after investigating and interrogating the flower seller and other people, the Internal Security Service (Shin Bet) believed that Iranian elements were behind sending the bouquet of flowers to the family of the captive female soldier.
