The Mufti of Ethiopia and Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Committee, Dr. Gilan Khader Ghemda, affirms that the love of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, is subordinate to and emanates from the love of God Almighty. In his interview with the “Sharia and Life in Ramadan” program, he mentions the many reasons that require love for the Holy Prophet.

Among the reasons cited by the Mufti of Ethiopia is that the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, is the Beloved of the Lord of the Worlds, and He chose him and chose him and made it obligatory for the believers to love him, obey him, and believe in him, in addition to that he is the savior of the believers from Hell, ignorance, disbelief, and polytheism, and God Almighty said in Surah Al Imran: “ God has favored the believers when He sent among them a messenger from among themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and the wisdom, even though before they had been in clear error.”

Muslims also hope for the intercession of the Holy Messenger on the Day of Resurrection, “the day when all the prophets will say, ‘My soul is my soul,’ and the Messenger (may God bless him and grant him peace) will say, ‘My nation, my nation.’”

Muslims love their Messenger because of his great morals, humility, modesty, presence, patience, forgiveness, and his treatment of young and old, and he is the one who combined good qualities that were not found in any human being. The Companions, may God be pleased with them, set the highest example in their love for their Prophet, and they would sacrifice themselves for him, and this was the case of Caliph Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, and others.

The Mufti of Ethiopia describes love for the Noble Prophet as a legal and rational love because it brings reflection, explaining that every Muslim must believe in the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, believe him, obey him, and avoid what he forbade, and secondly, the Muslim must follow his Sunnah outwardly and inwardly.

Defending the Messenger

There were many hadiths about love for the Messenger, and it was mentioned in the agreed-upon hadith of Abu Hurairah that the Noble Messenger said: “None of you will believe until I am dearer to him than himself and his children.”

Among the signs of love for him, may God bless him and grant him peace, are obedience to him, compliance with his commands and avoiding his prohibitions, love for his Sunnah and spreading his religion until his nation expands and becomes more nations, as well as love for his companions and the mothers of the believers and not to criticize them.

Dr. Gilan Khadr calls for a response to those who attack the Islamic religion, by clarifying the facts of this religion and publishing the biography of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace.

It also stresses the importance of a Muslim teaching his family and friends about the biography of the Holy Prophet and his love, and that there be lectures and seminars on the biography of the Prophet, which is a way of life that should be passed on to generations.

The Mufti of Ethiopia and the head of the Supreme Fatwa Committee calls for frequent mention of the Noble Messenger and prayers and peace be upon him, so that his reward will be intercession on the Day of Resurrection, and God Almighty will bless him in his life and relieve his worries. He warns against the issue of exaggeration in love for the Noble Messenger, “Do not neglect or go to extremes,” that is, do not make it A call to God Almighty, and the Mufti of Ethiopia said that the Holy Prophet warned against extremism.

Regarding the appropriate way for Muslims to support their Prophet in the current era, he says that Muslims must apply God’s law in their morals and dealings, show their love for their Prophet and defend him, spread their religion and call the world to it.
