“We are not police officers”

Since September 2023, the flagship host of M6 has been accused by three former partners of humiliation, threats, verbal violence and, for two of them, of physical abuse. Information revealed by our colleagues at Mediapart. After the publication of these accusations, Stéphane Plaza's lawyers described them as "defamatory and insulting". On the M6 side, the position of the host does not seem to be in question. At the time of the revelations, the channel announced that it was launching an internal investigation. Even if these investigations had yielded nothing, Nicolas de Tavernost, boss of M6, wanted to speak out.

Questioned by the Association of Media Journalists, he answered questions concerning the Stéphane Plaza case. “We did what was necessary in the internal investigation at Mediawan and M6. On a professional level, there was no reproach that could justify his sidelining. On a personal level, there will be a judgment and we will take our responsibilities,” he said. Also adding: “We are not police officers, we are not judges, we watch, we are very attentive”.

On departure, since the chairman of the management board of the M6 group will leave his position on April 23, Nicolas de Tavernost also took the opportunity to formalize the launch date of M6+, the group's new free platform. It will therefore be on May 15 that we will discover the successor to 6play with 30,000 hours of programs including 10,000 exclusive hours.
