Supermarket in Wangen: The attacker is in the psychiatric hospital

After the knife attack on a four-year-old girl in a supermarket in Wangen im Allgäu, the suspected perpetrator was taken to a psychiatric hospital. A judge had issued a so-called detention order. This was announced by the police and public prosecutor.  

The 34-year-old is accused of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm. He is said to have attacked the girl in the supermarket in Baden-Württemberg with a knife and seriously injured her. According to police, it was a sudden attack.

According to investigators, the 34-year-old is a Dutchman from Syria who has citizenship of both countries. According to police, the man and the victim did not know each other. The four-year-old was in the discount store with her mother on Wednesday afternoon. She was operated on in a clinic after the attack and is in stable condition.

According to the police, a man in the supermarket noticed what was happening, took the knife from the attacker and called the officers. »The witness called the police and told us where the man was. “That’s how my colleagues were able to arrest him,” said the police spokeswoman on Thursday. The alleged perpetrator allowed himself to be arrested without resistance.
