Earthquake in the northeastern United States

There has been an earthquake in the region around the metropolis of New York. According to the responsible US authorities, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 on Friday morning (local time) and occurred at a depth of 4.7 kilometers.

The epicenter was in the US state of New Jersey, about 65 kilometers from New York. In Manhattan, the quake was felt as a slight rumble.

New York's emergency notification system said in a social media post more than 30 minutes after the quake that there were no reports of damage or injuries in the city. New York Mayor Eric Adams was informed about the events, according to local media reports.

People in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Connecticut and other areas of the northeastern United States also reported tremors. The tremors, which lasted several seconds, were also felt more than 300 kilometers away near the border between Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
