  • Media Prisa dismisses Juan Luis Cebrián as honorary president of El País after the announcement that he will collaborate in another medium

Juan Luis Cebrián

announced this Friday that he will go to court to demonstrate that he has not breached his contractual obligations as honorary president of

El País,

a reason given by the

Board of Directors of Prisa Media

for his dismissal from that position.

The former director of

El País

and former CEO of Prisa has issued a press release in which he assures that "in no case" has he breached his contractual agreement and that he will be able to "prove it in court."

Prisa Media reported the day before that the journalistic collaboration announced by Cebrián with the digital newspaper

The Objective

represented a material breach of the exclusive relationship contract with El País.

Cebrián has explained that he received the official communication of

his dismissal

this Friday early in the afternoon and that he preferred not to start a discussion until he had one, even though it was announced to him the previous afternoon.

The one who was director of El País from 1975 to 1988 and honorary president of the newspaper since 2018 has recalled in his note that the Style Book of that newspaper dictates that in conflictive cases both parties must be listened to, which is why he stated In recent hours, a call from a journalist from that medium has been missing, as, he has pointed out, those from others did.

After pointing out that six years ago he "insistently" refused to accept the honorary presidency, although he later accepted it "so as not to add moral tensions" to the company's shareholding situation, Cebrián has warned that this Saturday he will send the director of El País, Pepa Bueno, "the article that should publish, as agreed, next Monday."
