Just before the House of Representatives election three years ago, the former governor of Mie Prefecture received approximately 10 million yen in donations from a construction company in his constituency that had been contracted for national public works projects, and was sent to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Public Offices Election Act. The Tsu District Public Prosecutors Office did not indict the Liberal Democratic Party member of the House of Representatives, Hidetaka Suzuki, because the charges were insufficient.

Eikei Suzuki (49), former governor of Mie prefecture and member of the House of Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, announced that the Liberal Democratic Party Mie Prefecture 4th constituency district branch, which he represents, announced that in October 2021, just before the House of Representatives election three years ago, Regarding the fact that a total of approximately 10 million yen in donations was received from 13 construction companies in the constituency that had received construction orders, public office elections were prohibited from receiving donations for national elections from businesses that undertake national public works projects. Police sent Suzuki to the prosecutor's office in January this year after he was criminally accused of violating the law.

On the 5th, the Tsu District Public Prosecutors Office decided not to indict Rep. Suzuki on the basis that the charges were insufficient.

Regarding the reason for the non-prosecution, the prosecutor's office stated, ``Despite thorough investigation, we determined that there was no evidence to support the charges.''

Rep. Suzuki said, ``I had no idea that the donation was not related to the election, but to the political activities of a newly established branch, and that neither company had received public works projects from the government.'' Taking these into account, we accept that the investigation has concluded that there is no violation of the law."
